HLC Teacher/Parent/Student Contract
Middle School & High School

2 Timothy 2:15
This agreement outlines the shared responsibilities of students, parents, and teachers in maintaining a
productive learning environment at Hope Learning Center.

➤Expectations of Student:
1. School Work at Home:
a. Complete assigned homework each week. High school students should expect to spend approximately
1–2 hours per day per one-credit class. If homework is unclear or taking an excessive amount of time,
please connect with your teacher.
b. Late Work: Unexcused late work may be submitted within one week of the due date with a one-letter
grade reduction. After one week, late work will not be accepted.
c. Academic Integrity: Plagiarism will not be tolerated. All work must be original and properly cite sources.
Misuse of AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) may result in significant grade reduction or failure. Student
work may be checked for plagiarism.
2. Class time:
a. Follow your teacher’s preferred method of communication. If texting, messages must include the student,
parent, teacher, and the HLC office line (360-524-2238). Students should never text teachers directly.
b. Arrive on time with all required materials and ready to participate. If you will be absent or late, notify the
HLC receptionist by calling or texting 360-524-2238.
c. Cell phones are not permitted during class. If a phone is out during class, the teacher may hold it until the
end of the class period.
3. General Learning Center Policies:
a. Students must show respect to teachers, staff, parents, and classmates. While at Bethel Community
Church, students remain in designated HLC areas.
b. Horseplay and public displays of affection are not permitted. Students should help keep the campus
clean; last classes of the day will assist with cleaning tables, stacking chairs, and taking out garbage.
c. Parents will be notified of behavior concerns. Continued issues may require a parent to attend class with
the student. Persistent problems may result in removal from the class.
d. Students must remain on campus during class time. Students in grades 9–12 may walk to nearby
businesses with a signed parent permission slip and after signing out in the HLC office.
e. Weapons of any kind, including pocket knives, are not permitted.
f. Students must dress modestly and appropriately for a learning environment.

➤Expectations of Parent:
1. Schoolwork at home:
a. Verify that your student completes homework on time and assist when needed. Stay current on your
students’ assignments and grades through TeacherEase and Google Classroom.
b. Help your child manage their time.
c. Monitor your student’s progress during the week to ensure they are spending adequate time on their work
(approximately 1–2 hours per subject per day for middle/high school).
d. Because HLC classes meet only once per week, success depends on strong partnership and
communication between parents and teachers.
e. Parents may occasionally be asked to assist with tasks such as correcting papers or monitoring quizzes and tests at home.
2. Class time:
a. Attend your child’s first class of the year. Some teachers may also request parent attendance at the first
class of the second semester.
b. Follow your teacher’s preferred method of communication (text, call, or email).
3. General Learning Center:
a. If your student has a fever of 100.4 or higher, chills, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath, fatigue,
headache, nausea, sore throat, or body aches, keep them home! If your student comes to class not
feeling well, teachers will call parents to come pick them up right away.
b. HLC does not have a nurse on site. If your child has a medical situation beyond general first aid,
parents will be called immediately, and a teacher will stay with that student until he/she is picked up.
c. Volunteering is required of parents. 20 hours per year on one of the volunteer teams or as volunteer
opportunities arise during the school year. If you’re unable to volunteer, there is a $330 volunteer opt-out
fee due at the time of enrollment.
d. Parents of 9th-12th-grade students need to sign a permission form if they’re allowing their students to
walk off campus. This will be provided at the Welcome Back Night in August.
4. Financial:
a. All monthly class payments go through ACH Withdrawal. Semester or paid-in-full payments may be paid
by check.
b. Withdrawal Procedure:
i. Contact your student’s teacher first to let him/her know the reason for withdrawal.
ii. Next, contact Lisa (HLC Office Manager) to proceed with the withdrawal.
iii. Pay a $25 withdrawal fee.

➤Expectations of Teacher:
1. Provide a clear syllabus with assignments and their due date.
2. Keep Google Classroom up to date with homework assignments and extra materials needed.
3. Plan and teach lessons each week based on the syllabus.
4. Provide grades and feedback on homework that is turned in on time.
6. Be available to answer questions during designated office hours and by appointment.
7. ALL texts with students will include student, parent, teacher, and HLC #360-524-2238. Students and teachers
should never text each other directly.
