Foundations Classes:
■ Follow the teaching schedule every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Do not work ahead in school
workbooks. If you need more practice or a challenge, tell your teacher or use another resource. Let your
teacher know right away if you’re confused or if the homework is taking too long. If you get behind, work
with someone at home to catch up quickly.
■ Turn in all assigned work on time.
■ Arrive on time with completed homework and materials. If you miss class, use the class homework
newsletter to catch up. Any work you missed will be in your folder in the office.
Foundations, Science, & Enrichment Classes:
■ Come to class on time with completed homework and any other necessary materials. Please notify the
HLC receptionists at 360-524-2238 if you will be absent or late.
■ Display a respectful attitude to all teachers, staff, classmates, and parents.
■ While at Bethel Community Church, only use the designated student areas.
■ Please clean up after yourself, leaving the campus as clean or cleaner than when you arrived.
■ Parents will be notified of behavior issues immediately.
■ Cellphones are not allowed in class.
■ No weapons of any kind are allowed on campus, including pocket knives.
■ Students are expected to wear modest, appropriate clothing that respects the mission of Hope Learning
Center.

➤Expectations of Parent:

Foundations Classes:
■ Consistently teach your student according to your teacher’s weekly teaching schedule. Elementary
students must complete their checklist on non-class days (Tues, Thurs, Fri), spending at least 2
hours per day.
■ Remind your student to turn in work on Monday and Wednesday and offer help as needed. If
homework completion falls below 80%, teachers will address it in an oversight meeting. After three
occurrences, a meeting with the HLC Director will be required to reassess program fit.
■ Parents must attend a 30-minute oversight meeting with their child’s teacher twice a month. If you
have any questions or concerns, don’t wait—reach out right away for help.
Foundations, Science, & Enrichment Classes:
■ Since parents are responsible for the majority of their child’s instruction, communication between
parents and teachers is essential. Be sure to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
■ Sick policy: If your student has a fever of 100.4 or higher, chills, cough, runny nose, shortness of
breath, fatigue, headache, nausea, sore throat or body aches, keep them home! If your student
comes to class and develops symptoms, a parent will be contacted and asked to pick them up
immediately.

If you are withdrawing:
1. Contact your student’s teacher first to let them know the reason for the withdrawal.
2. Contact Lisa to proceed with the withdrawal.
3. Pay the $25 withdrawal fee.
■ Check with your teacher for their individual preferred method of communication. I.E. text, calls or email.
■ Volunteering is required of parents: 20 hrs. per year either on a volunteer team, for a special event,
or as a classroom volunteer. If you are unable to volunteer, there is a $330 volunteer opt-out. (That
fee equates to $16.50 an hour for 20 hours.)
■ All monthly class payments go through ACH Withdrawal. Semester or paid-in-full payments may be
paid by check.

➤Expectations of Teacher:

Foundations Classes:
● Arrange a meeting with each student’s parent(s) for oversight twice every month. A regular schedule for these
meetings should be established within the first full week of school.
● Be available to answer questions during oversight meetings, designated office hours, and by special
appointment.
● Track home assignments. If fewer than 80% are turned in, this will be addressed during an oversight meeting.
After three occurrences, a meeting with HLC Director will be held to reassess program fit.
Foundations, Science, & Enrichment Classes:
● Provide a clear teaching schedule for each subject with weekly work, including assignments and their due dates.
● Plan and teach lessons each week based on the teaching schedule.
● Provide grades and feedback on completed assignments.
● Inform parents of any other concerns regarding the student’s progress via email as soon as they arise so an
action plan can be developed.
